I’ve been collecting New Yorker cartoons for over 30 years, and each week on my Substack, my guest at Club Random and I pick a few and describe them to each other to see if they still hold up.
Please tell me how someone who wants to make America great again is a bad person? And since when did Maga become an adjective I don’t get it. And we actually do need more people that want to make America great again.
like most improvisey things, it doesn't always work, but can be great when it does.
I'm always interested to see what the person finds important (and not) about the image (to communicate) before reading the caption (and how reading the caption can change it).
I’ve liked you for years, but your closing argument last show—placing onus on women to “not wait 10 years” because society is different now.
Excuse me, but no. If it were so different, a man convicted of sexual assault wouldn’t be in the POTUS position. There also wouldn’t be multiple men, who faced strong accusations of assault, on SCOTUS.
Your closing speech was a horrendous oversimplification of the issue for societal, criminal, and psychological reasons.
Restraining orders are surprisingly difficult to secure. Even when they’re secured, they don’t actually protect women from violence. In fact, women are in the most danger immediately after leaving their abusers.
Finally, you didn’t recognize or factor the heavy emotional and psychological toil that abuse holds. Some women are unable or incapable of going to authorities right away (this could mean that they don’t have the means to leave the man because it’s typical of abusers to isolate and steal and make women dependent upon them for everything, including finances. This could also mean they fear for their and/or their children’s lives. This could mean that their abuser is in law enforcement or is incredibly rich and/or famous—all factors that unevenly turn the table against women)
To keep many of us,including myself, as fans—we demand you apologize and show some humility when you admit this is a multifaceted issue, of which you have a limited understanding but vow to learn more about
Sometimes these work. Sometimes they don't. That being said, major props to Jillian Michaels for attempting to read with her contacts in! I am the exact same age, and I sure as heck can't do it. Now I feel less alone in my middle-aged blindness. Thanks, Jillian!
No point in watching this. It has no audio. Or you listen to the audio ewithout the video. Pointless. Why do they send it if has no audio or video. Where is the fun??

Once you take your head out, it makes it much easier to see what is happening around you.
Just what we all need is more maga. 🤬

This was a good example of that.
